Freedom in the flow of power through the back, shaped by rotation — bending and flexion.
Freedom in the shoulders — shoulder-out and shoulder-in.
The inner hind leg steps forward under the center of gravity, while the outside hind leg carries — shoulder-in.
The outer hind leg follows forward under the center, while the inside hind leg carries — quarter-in.
Activation of both hind legs creates lightness in the forehand — collection.
The horse is balanced between hand and leg.

Elements

Suppleness, Shape, Balance, Tempo, Takt, and Schwung — these are the fundamental elements that create quality and beauty in how your horse moves.
  • Suppleness refers to relaxation, trust, and mobility.
  • Shape involves bending and flexion, rotation of the chest, and alignment without strain. All parts of the body are directed in the same way, creating a shape that allows the horse to carry itself with ease.
  • Balance emerges from movements where the whole body can distribute motion and weight evenly.
  • Tempo is how fast you are travelling, regardless of the gait. You can travel fast in walk, or slowly in walk — tempo is about speed.
  • Takt describes both the gait itself and the rhythm of the leg movements. You can move at a slow tempo while the legs move in a fast takt, or walk slowly in tempo with a slow takt.
  • Schwung describes the freedom with which the spine swings.
